It depends on your web host. For example, I host with HostGator, and I do not have to enter ftp when I setup a site; but some other hosts do require ftp in the web url.
So contact your web host and ask them.

No. FireFTP can not connect computer to computer directly; UNLESS, the other computer is running an FTP server.
However, you can connect to another computer using FileZilla.
